Novera Ahmed is the pioneer artist for sculpture in Bangladesh in 1960. Her sculpture has the reflections of Henry Moor or Barbara Hepworth although the similarities might be rare in terms of volume or depth of work. In most of the cases, she used to work in a closed and organic form. Novera Ahmed started her journey with her first solo exhibition “Inner Gaze” at 1960. Her artworks were based on abstract expressionism. At that time, she started making sculpture in ‘ava guard’ form. She made an extra ordinary contribution in the making of the national monument of Bangladesh “Shaheed Minar”. She spent a significant part of her life at Paris and last breath in May 2015.

PNG The renowned photographer Jaber Ahmed Chowdhury, took the shots of Novera’s sculptures in one of her exhibition in 1998. He believes that a clean and artistic photography can express the art of a sculpture with the same thought. A photography work of sculpture is also capable to carry the same value as the sculpture itself.

Researcher Mr. Rejaul Karim briefly overviewed the life of Novera Ahmed through powerpoint presentation. Mr. Raphaël Jaeger, Director of Alliance Française Chittagong, Mr. Gurupada, Secretary of Alliance Française Chittagong was present at the event. The exhibition was supported by Embassy of France in Bangladesh and PHP Family.
